ABOUT SPIDS


The Saudi Pediatric Infectious Disease Society (SPIDS) is based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It was founded by Dr. Ibrahim Bin-Hussain (For detail please click) and shaped up in a professional association with other nation-wide renowned pediatric infectious diseases specialists and expert whose credentials and backgrounds are of molecular, translational, and clinical research of infections and the clinical management of these illnesses in children, in the Kingdom. In 2012, the society was registered in the Saudi Commission of Health Specialist in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.


Pediatric infectious disease is the subspecialty of pediatrics that focuses on diagnosing and managing infections. Although, most common infections are treated by general pediatrician and other specialty physicians. Pediatric infectious disease specialists are frequently called upon to help diagnose unknown infections and assist in managing difficult, unusual, or complicated infections. Because of their training, Pediatric infectious disease specialists are also uniquely equipped to deal with the environmental, occupational, and host factors that predispose to infection, as well as the basic principles of epidemiology and transmission of infection.

Pediatric infectious disease is the sub-specialty of pediatrics that focuses on diagnosing and managing infections. An Infectious Disease is a disease caused by germs, such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. These diseases are often termed communicable diseases; some of these diseases are spread from person to person, while others are contracted from animals. Professionals at SPIDS are pediatric infectious disease specialists, uniquely equipped to deal with these communicable diseases and infections. They share, exchange and disseminate knowledge to control the environmental, occupational, and host factors that predispose to infection. They are also very adept and aware with the basic principles of epidemiology and transmission of infection. Therefore the SPIDS through its network advocates for the health of children, and works with Ministry of Health, Communities and other National Organizations in the prevention and control of pediatric infectious diseases.


SPIDS aim to serve in Saudi Arabian, Middle Eastern and EMRO region for the protection of the public health and to promote the care and well-being of patients, as the infectious disease needs are underrepresented in this area compared to Europe and North America. The professionals at SPIDS are dedicated in providing the highest quality of medical care and awareness with integrity and compassion.


The objective of SPIDS is promote the advancement of knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of pediatric infectious diseases and to provide a platform to the scientific society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases to share the views, scholarly research and create public awareness as to improve the health of children through enhanced infectious disease prevention in Saudi Arab, Middle East and EMRO region (WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region). SPIDS continuously conducts seminars, workshops and other scientific meetings and encourage collaborative national and multinational researches on pediatric infectious diseases of high priority.
